I used to think social networking sites were just for teens and tweens, but recently it seems I am now on one of them, Facebook. Facebook is a bit more discreet than MySpace as you can hide your page until you actually agree to "friend" someone.
Basically it's all curiosity killed the cat for me. A trip down memory lane to see who is married, what they are doing, how many kids they have, etc...it's interesting at times and odd at others. Recently, I've had an ex-boyfriend who I still think on fondly, that I dated in high school look me up. I can't figure out how he found me as we don't have any friends in common and we are not in the same groups on Facebook. Regardless it is fun to see that he is doing well and about to get married. All of my ex-boyfriends are getting married or are recently just married within the last few years and are starting families.
However, I also got a "friend" request from someone who's name seemed familiar but I could not place. So I said yes to the friend request as I have gone to 3 different high schools and have moved around so much I can't remember everyone. I have a lot of so-called "friends" on FB that I have no idea who they are but supposedly I went to school with them. I suppose it's flattering that they remember me, but I don't remember them and I can't find my yearbooks any longer to look them up.
The recent friend request is from BF. I was on FB today and BF used the instant message system via FB to write me. He immediately said, I bet you have no idea who I am - I'm like BINGO. So instead of just telling me like a normal person, he wants me to try to figure it out...ugh. So supposedly we met one night and had a smooch - clearly it was meaningless to me as I can't place him. I looked at his profile on FB and saw the fraternity he is with and was like, I didn't know any X's! So anyway, long story short guy wants to know if I'm divorced or gay - gee thanks, and then why I'm not married. Sigh...then asks if I've gained 200 pounds. Is that the reason I have no photos of myself online? Partly, yes. Haven't gained 200 pounds, but I don't want my photo up. Then asks repeatedly for me to send a photo. NOPE. The conversation was a bit odd as he is married with 2 children and I clearly have no memory of him. It kind of creeped me out.
This is why I dislike FB and why I don't have any photos of myself up. It's bad enough people are finding me now - people I don't necessarily want to find me without photos - with, forget it. I know you are thinking then just don't accept the "friend" request...well, I had no idea...like I said, I could have been friends with him and just forgotten...I suppose I can unfriend him if he creeps me out again.
Do you have a former crush who you are dying to find again?

So you never figured out who he was? What a sicko he sounds like!
Your brother also gets a lot of FB requests from old classmates that he has no idea who they are. You guys are doomed in that area, I suppose.
I continually check for my college boyfriend. He has a unique last name common first name. So let's say his name is Ted Funklebean and I found one on FB and the guy lived in a neighboring state, so I figured it was him. Friended him with a message saying "Is it really you?". Turns out it wasn't. The guy was really nice, said he was sorry for not being who I wanted him to be, but how weird that there was another Ted Funklebean in the universe.
I actually like the name Ted Funklebean.
Seriously, I have no recollection of this guy. And he mentioned someone else we were with that I can't remember either! I suppose I could ask my old high school g-friend if she remembers him. But why bother. Anyway, it was rather odd and creepy.
